Kyebe Maternity Ward Renovations Project Update
January 2024

Stella and Matthew Proctor, our International Directr, have been working for some years on the Kyebe Maternity Ward renovation project, in Kyebe, Uganda.  Late last year we finalized the first round of fundraising for the project, and kicked off the project officially.  A lot has happened in 2024 so far, and a lot more to come, but I thought I'd share what we've been up to.

We have a micro-site for the project, and I've listed a few updates below.

January 2024 - we visited the facility in Uganda to finalize plans and meet with the local community and health workers:

March & April 2024 - renovations officially start, with the relocation of the maternity ward and demolition of a number of unsafe supporting walls:

April 2024 - official launch of the temporary Maternity Ward by the community our in-country host Rotary Club and District representatives:

So what is next?

Renovations (and some reconstruction) is well and truly underway, and we will have more updates in early May.  The team in Kyebe are hard at work putting together the new facility, and (weather permitting) we hope to have it completed later this year.  We're in regular contact with the team, typically fortnightly, and are provided with updates and reports as to progress.

But... we still need your help!

Whilst we've completed a number of fundraising initiatives for this project, we're still looking for more support to add essential items and services to the Maternity Ward.

These include:

- Replacement external water tank (and its plumbing)
- Electrical work to re-wire the facility back into mains supply
- Provision of additional solar panels for emergency power
- Provision of maternity and neonatal consumables
- Purchase (from local traders) additional beds, furniture and mattresses

The project has a RAWCS account, and any support you or your friends may be able to offer is greatly appreciated.

We're excited to see the facility come back to life, and the local Kyebe community is immensely grateful and thankful for our support so far.

If you'd like any additional details about this project, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Best regards,

Matthew & Stella
